When it comes to selecting fabrics for your hats, a great alternative to get away from the obvious is the mélange yarn. The outcomes of this blending can give you an edge to create exceptional products. This is because they have a smooth feel with an attractive and unique appearance.
For example, if we blend fibers of black cotton (55%) and white polyester (45%) we can get a grey color yarn with a wavy pattern, giving the hat a unique color and fabric feel.
The term “mélange” refers to yarns that are produced by the combination of different colored fibers. Yarns are a “long continuos length of interlocked fibers, suitable for use in the production of textiles, sewing, knitting, weaving, embroidery, etc.” (Wikipedia). There are two basic classifications of mélange yarns:
- Blended Mélange Yarn: blend of two or more different fibers with fixed ratios.
